Frequently Asked Questions
What are the classes like?
Each class lasts one hour and varies in intensity and style, but each shares a common thread—learning and an intensive workout. You will never get hit in a Boxing class, but you will hit 100 pound heavy bags all day. All classes are taught by trained boxers and kick boxers, so you’ll learn the fundamentals and techniques from a pro. Low and high impact are available for any fitness and skill level.
What equipment do I need?
We have gloves for you to use while you try class out. When you join, you will want your own personal pair. You may purchase them from us or order your own online.
I’ve never done anything like this before; is experience required?
No, not at all. Nearly 80% of our members started at the club never having any type of “fight” training experience. While all our programs are designed by experienced fighters, we understand that many of our members are just looking to get in great shape.
Is it mostly guys training there or are there female members as well?
About 65-70% of our members are male; however there are plenty of female members at the gym as well. We pride ourselves on our strong sense camaraderie and community, so regardless of your age, skill level, or sex, you’ll feel welcome.
Is sparring / contact required?
No, absolutely not. Many of our members choose not to do it - but if you do, it will be done with great care. Sparring is not done in class. Safety is our primary goal, so should you decide to step into the ring, it will be under strict supervision.
I would like to compete. Do you have a competition team?
Yes, we do. Every year we field a team of boxers for the Golden Gloves Tournament and we also have competition teams for both Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA. You just have to come to class regularly and learn.
How do I get on the competition team?
Join our program, attend the Tuesday and Thursday 6 pm class for three months, then you will be able to come in for team training, after three months in team training if you’re ready you will be able to compete.
How many people are in a group class?
Classes will range between 15-30 people. The larger the class, the more instructors to help out
Will there be other beginners in my class?
Absolutely. There are always beginners in class. Plus, the advanced students are always eager to help you get you on your way
Do I need to ‘get in shape’ before I start you classes?
A common misunderstanding is that you need to be ‘in shape’ before starting boxing training. This is completely false. Our classes are designed to allow our members to train ‘at their own pace’ while at the same time, giving the advanced student the opportunity to challenge themselves.
How early should I arrive for a class?
Members should arrive 10 to 15 minutes early in your workout gear and ready to go. You’ll need the extra time to get your hands wrapped and put on your gloves. Visitors should arrive 20 minutes early to check in before starting the class.
